Graham Hill won a disputed Memorial Day 500 in Indianapolis after a massive first lap crash sidelined many. Jim Clark backers protested the official finish, claiming Clark won as Hill led the final laps amid numerous mechanical failures and late-race pit penalties.

Minnesota Twins manager Sam Mele was hospitalized Monday with calf pain. Dr. William Proffitt said the pain could be a recurrence of phlebitis but more likely a pulled muscle, with a two day stay expected. Ed Barnowski, former Elmira standout, started 1966 with seven strikeouts for Rochester in a 3-2 win over Richmond.

Koufax Considers Court Action During Holdout
In Look Magazine an AP report notes Sandy Koufax says he would have seriously considered testing baseball's reserve clause in court if his contract dispute with the Los Angeles Dodgers kept him from playing. He and Don Drysdale warned they wouldn’t commit without the other's approval and discussed arbitration for salary disputes. The two pitchers demanded a three year deal and a $1 million package as an opening offer, later settled for a total around $240,000 for one season.
