Democrats prepare for 1956 campaign issue strategy
The World Today analyzes how Democrats, 17 months before the 1956 election, lack a unifying issue against Republicans after not presenting a war or Redgate topic. The piece notes Eisenhower predicted GOP focus on Reds, a forecast that largely held true with sparse Democratic counterpoints.

Political calm masks 1956 party dynamics and leadership

It compares 1951 Republican rallying around Taft to current leadership gaps, and hints at potential vulnerability if new issues emerge, amid broad prosperity. Eliminate Off Flavor Source in Milk via Temperature Control
College Park May 31 Dairy farmers can cut off flavor in milk by limiting lipase activity in the dairy. Dr Mark Kenney of the University of Maryland explains lipase breaks down butterfat to free butyric acid, causing rancid notes in milk and butter from raw cream. Slowing lipase with cooler temperatures, around 40 degrees, reduces rancid flavor, while warming milk or agitation can trigger lipase and worsen off flavor. Farm tank guidance warns against adding warm milk to cooled batches and against excessive pumping, elbows, and tees which can promote lipase activity.

Dairy piping concept to reduce joints before pasteurization
A dairy chemist advises minimizing joints in pipe lines and holdings to improve cooling efficiency and avoid extra pumps. Pasteurization helps stop lipase activity but does not remove all flavors. Building on flavor from activity is possible with fewer joints before pasteurization.
