Blockade Backed by Sherman in U N Policy Debate
Washington May 30 Admiral Forrest Sherman urged a United Nations naval and commercial blockade to crush Communist China's wartime economy. He noted Joint Chiefs of Staff support and cited a past successful effort to bring a rogue officer into line. Sherman stood alone among top chiefs in backing the blockade amid a Senate inquiry into MacArthur’s ouster and policy differences.

US Navy Admiral Sherman Warns UN Blockade Preferable
On May 1 1951 Admiral Sherman told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that naval blockades should be a United Nations effort not an independent US action. He stressed defense of Western Europe as priority, warned losing Western Europe would empower Soviet power, and said Russia would be vulnerable to both air and sea power. He contrasted with Vandenberg’s views and noted Western Europe’s shipyards and aircraft capacity are critical.
