Walkersville 200th anniversary marks community service
Four thousand people celebrated Walkersville’s 200th anniversary with a parade to Glade Valley cemetery and the dedication of a new $60,000 Fire House and Community Hall. Attendees included visitors from Baltimore, Washington, and Western Maryland, plus state and local officials, firemen, and dignitaries. The day featured Memorial Day services at Glade cemetery led by Dr. W. R. Barnhart, a dedicatory address by J. Millard Tawes, and a concert by the Hagerstown band, followed by a two-day observance concluding with an old-fashioned square dance.
