Youth Held On Forgery Charge
In Westminster on Tuesday Judge James E. Boylan Jr waived juvenile jurisdiction over Joseph Sterling Steinberg and held him on two counts of extortion and one of forgery following an eight month state police investigation. Steinberg, a New Windsor resident, was arrested Monday by Corporal James N. Simmons and Trooper James S. Poteet after letters demanding 1000 and a forged check tied to threats against Mrs. Margaret Rowe of Route 31 near Medford were traced to him. Police say profiled handwriting and forged checks linked to the same writer. Steinberg confessed, and was held for grand jury action after a hearing.
