Memorial Day Observed Across Frederick and Nearby Areas
Memorial Day activities spanned Frederick with bank and store closings, flag decorations, and a parade featuring Maryland National Guard units, school cadets, veterans, and American Legion posts. The ceremony at Mt Olivet Cemetery included prayers, a speech by Sherman P. Bowers on the war eras, a Star Spangled Banner singalong, a moment of silence, and graves adorned with flowers and flags. In Buckeystown the event centered on a flag presentation by the Women’s Club and a brief musical program. Montgomery County observances at Rockville Union and Forest Oak cemeteries drew hundreds for floral tributes and hymns.
