Hood College study cites housing bias against gays in Frederick County
Hood College centered study presented to the Frederick County Human Relations Commission finds discrimination against gay residents in housing and employment. The eight person study used two lesbian couples and two straight couples to test landlords and a restaurant owner. Three of ten rental inquiries showed bias against lesbians, including one remark that a unit was better for one person. The researcher Christine Patterson, a Hood student, noted strong anti gay hostility among some officials but cited statewide protections as reducing need for a county ordinance.
