ER announces largest display of mens and boys hats and caps with wide shapes and new colors. Mens hats priced from 89 to 3 dollars. Boys hats from 14c to 2.50.

The Davis funeral train movement moved from Montgomery to Atlanta on May 30 with Governor Jones and staff aboard. A marching procession through Opelika West Point and other towns featured floral tributes, salutes, and large crowds including veterans, women, and children. In Atlanta over 5,000 attended the ceremonies with the casket placed on a bier near Ben Hill’s statue, guarded by the Gate City guards.
Reports describe the burial plan for Jefferson Davis at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. Remains escorted from the depot to a funeral car, with Mrs Davis and family preparing for interment in a central circular plot near the James River. Also noted is the arrival of Davis’s son and grandson in Ricnuxo for later reinterment in the Davis section.
A 48 year old man, battered by a heavy iron seal and left with broken ribs, crawled to his bed then used the seal to beat out his brains. He died at Dixie hospital after being found unconscious in Hampton Virginia near Fox Hill. He fled New York and pleaded not to be sent back.
In Palmyra Bishop Bonacum and Father Smith attempted to seize church control from Pastor Corbett amid his suspension. The congregation resisted, Corbett conducted mass, and Smith departed for Lincoln as tensions flared. Longline storm reports follow from Georgia and Alabama.

An Indianapolis dispatch to the Chicago Herald reports a nationwide scam offering subscriptions to stock of the Aldine Hotel Company in Chicago. Subscriptions were to fund a World’s Fair hotel, with promised entertainment for subscribers’ families, but cost rises halted construction and reimbursements were not promised. About $50,000 is alleged to have been taken in Indiana, with notable subscribers including Governor Matthews and State Auditor Henderson. The Aldine Hotel president also led the defunct Chemical National Bank, fueling suspicions the money vanished into the bank.
