Yeltsin elected president of Russia in historic vote
In Moscow Boris N. Yeltsin defeated Mikhail Gorbachev after three ballots in the Russian Congress of People's Deputies to win 535 votes, claiming Russia's social, economic and spiritual rebirth. Alexander Vlasov received 467 ballots as Yeltsin now challenges Gorbachev who still holds the top Soviet posts.

Charles Stull Sr 96 longtime Frederick music educator dies
Charles C T Stull Sr died Monday at Northampton Manor Nursing Home at age 96. He initiated Frederick County schools music program, taught in Bloomfield and Thurmont, organized county bands, and directed the Yellow Springs Concert Band for 60 years. Memorial Day recall of horrors from Vietnam service
Local attorney Thomas Nikirk described one of the worst horrors of his Vietnam experience during Memorial Day ceremonies at Mount Olivet Cemetery. He recalled Delta Company’s 1969 70 search near Valley 516, a shell explosion that killed or wounded several soldiers and left mangled scenes as the Viet Cong waited for a return to camp. He urged listeners to honor those who died and understand the sacrifices made in Vietnam.
