Artificial Gas Blast Burns Yellow Springs Resident
George L. Twentey, 68, a well known Yellow Springs resident, escaped with serious burns after an artificial gas explosion in his basement lit his clothing. He was hospitalized in Frederick with severe burns to the head face shoulders and ankles. Neighbors saw the flash and heard the blast as the gas flooded the basement. An automatic pilot valve failed causing the heater to flood the basement with gas. Twentey used a garden hose to quell the flames and his wife aided. This was his second accident in 18 months after a prior auto crash.
