Federal push for federal control of horse racing drugs
In a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing on federal takeover of racing drug rules Maryland and other states were urged to adopt a uniform national standard. Humane Society officials testified that state laws lag in testing and enforcement with cases cited from 1961 and 1980. Critics warned against shifting costs to the federal government, noting NASRC guidelines and partial state compliance, while Maryland is listed among those not fully compliant.
