A freak thunderstorm drenched parts of the city delivering heavy rain in some districts and light showers in others. Downtown remained dry while water filled gutters. rainfall varied from no measure at the airport barracks to half an inch there, with May totals rising to 0.5 inches and last July the driest in memory. Fire At Sea After Navy Jet Crash On Carrier Deck
A Navy jet crash aboard the carrier Essex near Jacksonville Florida left the pilot dead and 3 crew critically injured. Car Crash Kills 16 Year Old Burdette in City
A late night car crash near Union Bridge fatally injures 16 year old Ronald Monroe Burdette of North Market street. Seventeen year old Mary Elizabeth Baer remains in critical condition with skull and chest injuries. Driver Robert Lydard, 16, is in satisfactory condition with a fractured wrist. Other passengers include Joan Baer, Francis Wetzel, Sally Cannon and Carol Wright all reporting injuries. The car left a left hand curve and struck a tree two miles south of Union Bridge. Local ambulances and firemen assisted at the scene. Burdette died at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Burdette was a student at Elm Street Junior High and member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church. He lived with his mother Eleanor Burdette and stepfather Burgess-Palmeyer at 814 North Market street. Survived by sister Eleanor Marie Burdette and grandparents.
