A second rescue involved a helicopter crew from Frederick saving three canoeists from rapids near the US 340 bridge using a rope drop technique devised by Cpl. Carl Marshall and Tfc. Kenneth Deegan. Another boat capsized amid swift water as the operation unfolded. Both rivers ran six to eight feet above normal.
Anderson urged a final decision on restoring funds cut from the school board budget to let the board allocate by category. Commissioner Claggett stressed maintenance and library deficiencies, noting funding constraints from road projects and a new courthouse. Remnaberg warned the levy limits the board, blaming unfunded federal legislation for financial woes.

The Frederick Hadassah chapter will install officers Friday June 4 after Sabbath services at Beth Shalom Synagogue Frederick. Mrs Martha Rothstein will install the officers. Officers are Carol Blum president Linda Solomon vice president Ruth Smallberg treasurer and Dr Ann Abeles recording secretary. Dr Abeles will receive the chapter Woman of the Year Award for five years of service as president. Mrs Anna Greenberg will present the award. Congregation and friends are invited.
