Postmaster John Young proclaims May 23 to 28 as Mailbox Improvement Week to prompt repairs repainting and upgrades for rural curbline and star route mailboxes as rural mail service expands across 13.8 million miles served by 32 616 routes. Charles M Boyle elected vice president of Treeland Nurseries Inc with prior work in highway and plant industry and a horticulture degree from the University of Maryland. A separate Frederick area note cites 13 rural routes serving about 1,200 families.
