Huge Rail Bridge to Span the East River Linking Regions
Long-planned New York Connecting Railroad project seeks municipal approval. Gustav Lindenthal designed a monumental steel arch bridge with four tracks, two passenger and two freight, spanning Hell Gate and connecting New England routes to the South. The span would rise 140 feet above water, use 80,000 tons of steel, and create two distinct rail corridors without interference.
