Cecil County schools stay open amid funding shortage
Cecil County public schools will remain open for the rest of the year after the county provides more than 20 million dollars to cover delayed payments and salaries. Superintendent Orville Berwick warned a shutdown could have triggered loss of state funding for the 180 day school year. The county treasurer Rebecca Jackson says unpaid bills exceed 2 million with a 25 cent property tax increase proposed in the 1984 budget. The note also mentions the 1983 county deficit projections and related audits. The article also includes a Martin Reunion notice and a Queen of England historical note.
