Law tightens interim account rules in Maryland politics
In Annapolis the Legislative Policy Committee voted to bar using interim funds for newsletters and questionnaires. Del. Robin Ficker faced renewed scrutiny over past interim expenditures including a 1981 constituent survey, but an ethics panel cleared him. The new rule, effective July 1, 1982, tightens oversight and curbs taxpayer funded political messaging.

Brunswick day care center asks for aid amid budget squeeze
At the first revenue sharing hearing for fiscal 13, Brunswick officials granted in kind help and money toward the Learning Tree day care, acknowledging past support but noting the $60,000 budget remains tight as federal programs shrink. Judy Wolf urged criteria for aid while Mayor Orndorff recalled prior grants and floated offering labor and equipment instead. The council said a $50,000 reappropriation could not be replaced this year, citing competing water and sewer projects and other priorities, with phase one costing about $15,000. The budget adds minor boosts to fire and library funds and outlines capital outlays for water system needs. A second hearing is set for June 1.
