Letters From 19th Century Frederick Found by Houston Man
Wengell S. Loomis of Houston presented a booklet of letters written in Frederick between 1814 and 1868 by his great grandfather William D. Jenks. The letters describe Frederick’s population, churches, an iron railing around the Court House, local education institutions, and 1831 Seminary precursors. Jenks also recalls harsh winters, heavy snow, and the era’s rural economy, noting a feeble later-life in 1867.
