Heavy showers and thunderstorms dumped up to three and a half inches of rain over 36 hours, flooding multiple roads and causing power and telephone outages. The Monocacy rose to 17.82 feet, various routes including Route 40 and Route 15 were blocked, trains stalled, and bridges and culverts were washed out. Local lines and state police radio were knocked out by lightning, while debris and washouts affected traffic and school buses. Total precipitation near Pearl reached 3.90 inches, with flood conditions easing by morning.

Bridge Planks Washed Out As He Crossed It
Robert Runkles of Route 1 Mt. Airy narrowly escaped injury when high water washed away planks on a Unionville Woodville road bridge over Singanore creek last night around 8 30. His car fell into the creek and required towing. the vehicle sustained water damage. State Trooper James Lewis reported the incident and notified the Frederick county Roads Board of the unsafe condition.
