Mexico City May 28 President Diaz resigned in a letter to the chamber of deputies and the chamber accepted it with no protest. Francisco Leon de la Barra became provisional president as crowds cheered outside. Seven killed and thirty six wounded in rioting as police and troops guarded the Zocalo and surrounding streets. Reports also place five deaths at Guadalajara amid demonstrations.
Harrisburg May 26 The 1911 legislature adjourned after appropriating 58 million dollars for two years about six million more than 1909. Over 1200 bills passed both chambers with 200 signed by Governor Tener. The public service commission bill was defeated while a utilities study commission will report next session. Public schools receive 15 million and a good roads plan seeks 4 million immediate funding plus a 50 million bond plan. The state reorganizes the insurance department and passes a mine code expanding miners protections amid opposition.
