Concerned Black Citizens back Coley for school board
The Concerned Black Citizens of Frederick endorse Al Coley of Walkersville for the local school board seat. Willie Mahone cited Coley’s qualifications, IBM background, and leadership roles with the Walkersville Equity Council and PTA as reasons for support. The group says the GOP and Democratic committees did not nominate a black candidate and would back Coley if named by Gov. Hughes.

Bennett disbarment case delayed to September at earliest
Maryland Court of Appeals will hear the disbarment grievance against former Frederick District Court Judge Stanley Y. Bennett no sooner than September. The high court recently received the transcript after the Montgomery County judge found cause to remove him for forging Judge Mary Ann Stepler’s signature to fix a traffic ticket during the 1982 circuit court race. Bennett remains a lawyer and could face a disbarment ruling later this year once arguments resume after the summer recess.
