Weekend Ferry Service Will Be Continued
The State Roads Commission announced it will keep the Claiborne Romaneoke ferry operating on weekends except Sunday afternoons and nights. Dredging widening channels at Sandy Point and Matapeake will finish by June 1, increasing boat capacity by about 15 percent to ease the traditional Sunday night jam. The plan to shift the Governor Emerson C Harrington, Jr. to the Sandy Point Matapeake run was abandoned for now due to protests from Eastern Shore residents.
