Farm mortgage debt rises in 1948 and 1949 totals
Washington May 24 The farm mortgage debt rose in 1948 and stood at 5 108 000 000 on January 1 1949. The Agriculture Department reported a 4 6 percent year over year increase of 226 009 000. Since 1946 the debt has climbed 9 1 percent totaling 425 000 000 as farm income funded equipment repairs and improvements while farm sales declined for the second straight year. Minnesota North Dakota and South Dakota are among states noted in the report.
