Planning Commission Approves Tract For Industrial Growth
The Frederick City Planning Commission approved, at a City Hall meeting led by Chairman G. Hunter Bowers, a proposed more than ninety acre tract east and south of Frederick Brick Works for an organized industrial district. Fred W. Tuemmiler Associates outlined a development plan with rail spurs, 44 foot streets, buffers, and future extensions. Unanimous prefinal approval also covered resubdivision changes on Schley Avenue and West Seventh Street to allow larger house lots, with nearby landowners observing and few objections.

Couple guilty of welfare fraud in Maryland case
HAGERSTOWN May 23 A Clear Spring couple with 11 children pleaded guilty to obtaining more than half of five thousand dollars in welfare payments under false pretenses from May 1952 to last year. Andrew Myers a carpenter and his wife Dora were given a year’s suspended sentence and ordered to repay the funds. State’s Attorney Tom Kaylor said Myers earned seven thousand nine hundred thirty three dollars and got five thousand one hundred thirty dollars from the welfare board with two thousand five hundred sixty dollars alleged as misrepresentation. Defense noted the large family and a debt load including a thousand dollar truck loan and a mortgaged 313 acre dwelling. The judge faced a dilemma about jailing the parents as the family would then be state dependent.
