New military justice system for all four services begins May 31
The four branches Army Navy Air Force and Coast Guard will implement a uniform military justice system starting May 31. It creates a civilian dominated Court of Military Appeals as the final review for major offenses, with a civilian or officer counsel for defendants and a structured multi step trial process. The plan, approved in 1948, aims to provide fairer protections and unify proceedings across services. Government officials and three civilian justices named to the new court include Paul W. Biesman George W. Larimer and Robert Emmett Quinn.
