Thomas property approved for work on National Register
Frederick County commissioners vote 4-1 to allow work on the Thomas property known as the Markell farmstead to qualify it for the National Register of Historic Places. Opponent John L Thor son Jr warned preservation could affect the property’s use as a buffer near the new county detention center. The measure aims to access state and federal funds for rehabilitating the home springhouse smokehouse and historic features while preserving its exterior and woodwork. Other county sites already listed include Winchester Hall and the Board of Education building.
