Hindus to wear labels in Islamic Afghanistan
In Kabul the Taliban proposed marking Hindu clothing to distinguish Hindus from Muslims and require Hindu women to be veiled. India and the United States denounced the plan as discriminatory. Reports say Afghanistan’s Hindu population has dwindled from about 50,000 in the 1970s to around 500 in Kabul and elsewhere. Protests erupted as Hindu groups decried the measures.
