Gordon proposes 5.2% pay hike for Frederick workers

Frederick Mayor Gordon unveiled a $31.7 million operating budget with a 5.2 percent across the board raise for city employees and reclassification for most 84 sworn police officers to boost wages. The plan, funded without higher property taxes, faces June hearings with a July 1 start date. The proposal also calls for a 10 percent water and sewer rate increase next year to meet regulatory costs.

County approves three ambulance tax districts in Frederick County

The Frederick County Commissioners narrowly approved three special taxing districts to fund paid ambulance personnel in Middletown Libertytown and Woodsboro after a contentious two hour meeting. Supporters cited staffing gaps while opponents warned of harming volunteers and shifting costs to property owners. More than 200 residents attended and 25 spoke against taxing ambulances as a fee based system.

VanPelt to seek Frederick County Commissioner seat
