Adamstown Water System to Serve 90 Dwellings
Frederick County commissioners voted to require owners of homes and buildings in Adamstown to connect to a public water system. The plan, extending within a year, targets a contaminated area around Trans-Tech Inc. and will serve Carroll Manor Elementary School and the Oxford Estates subdivision. Estimated installation charges per unit run about 235 dollars, after which bills depend on usage. The water source will be an existing Potomac River system, while negotiations with Trans-Tech over contamination studies stall. More than 45 Adamstown wells show contamination from volatile organics nitrates and bacteria, with 35 wells containing trichlorovethane and trichloroethylene.
