Weir Sentenced for Guilty Plea in Moose Club Robbery Attempt
Donald Weir, 16, Martinsburg, West Virginia, was sentenced to not more than four years in the State Reformatory for Males after pleading guilty to involvement in the April 7 Brunswick Moose Club attempted robbery. George H. Ramey, an escaped convict, was killed during the incident. associate judge Patrick S. Schoauffer noted the clerk watchman Hawes acted in self defense. The robbery involved breaking in, ransacking a cash register, stealing slot machines and other items, and Hawes fired the fatal shots from a kitchen cabinet. Weir testified briefly about joining Ramey for a Baltimore job and expressed remorse. The court noted prior juvenile trouble and probation.
