Severe Thunderstorms Hit City With Hail and Fire Damage

Heavy rain and hail moved through the area causing street flooding and damage. A shed on the Noffsinger farm burned with livestock feed and tools, with neighbors helping to save the barn while fire crews contained the blaze. Lightning struck near the weather station knocking out a telephone and power poles and trees were uprooted as winds reached 46 mph, affecting countywide areas from Brunswick to Emmittsburg.

Parked Car Struck By Washington Man

An automoblie parked on South Market Street was damaged Saturday night when struck by a car driven by Harry Woodward of Washington DC. Police said Woodward was under the influence. Officer Frank Dorsey filed charges of drunken and reckless driving. Woodward posted $110 collateral for appearance. No injuries reported. Owner of the struck vehicle could not be learned. the car reportedly carried New York license tags.

Weather clears after second storm with near normal May rain

The city saw a sunny Sunday after a drenching weekend with 81 degrees high and 60 degree low. Total May rainfall reached 3.27 inches, close to normal, as eight days produced most of the total and fields remain soaked slowing farm work.

Feagaville WCTU Holds May Meeting and Supper

The Feagaville WCTU held a May 19 covered dish supper for about thirty five members and guests in St Luke's Lutheran social room. Attendees included Mrs Thomas Anderson county WCTU president Rev Geo H Sesler and Mrs Sesler. The group heard readings and songs, heard a talk on Missionaries in the WCTU, and welcomed Rev Mr Seiler Jana Wailhs Derr superintendent of the Sunday School. The next meeting is set for June 30 at 2 pm at Mrs Austin Renn's home.
