Memorial Day Program Planned by Local American Legion Groups
A joint meeting of the Memorial Day committee of the Francis Scott Key Post American Legion and an Auxiliary committee approved a Memorial Day observance with invitations to patriotic and civic groups and schools. Two bands will participate. The meeting condemned poor flag etiquette observed during Mothers Day festivities, promising indignation meetings and detailing flag salute rules. The Auxiliary will run a Market Space stand selling flags, poppies, brick ice cream, pop and coca cola to benefit the American Legion Home Fund.

Cumberland Tax Rate Rises To 1 16 In Next Year
Cumberland adopts a municipal tax rate of 1.16 for the coming year, a five cent increase from this year. The rise funds legacy debt from a 20 year bond of 190000 issued two decades ago with bonds maturing in 1922 and a refinancing issue that requires an extra 10000 annually.
