Mudd urges college survival in first commencement address
NBC News chief Roger Mudd told Washington College's 200th graduating class that the liberal arts institution deserves to endure amid concerns of decline. He warned that ignorance and illiteracy threaten democracy, citing non-readers and the cost of illiteracy, and lauded President Douglass Cater for facing the challenge as the college enters its third century.
