Rueben Caplan of Colonial Music Store examines a harp set for auction at Saturdays sale held by Visitation Academy on East Second Street. The unidentified sister stands nearby as another harp remains to be shown.
Two early European harps from Mother Loretta Hunter, among other antiques, go on sale Saturday at the Visitation Academy Convent in Frederick. The event starts at 10 a.m. with Delbert S. Null as auctioneer. preview Friday 6 to 8 p.m. Proceeds fund renovation of the pre Revolution buildings. The harps, one once owned by a Baltimore socialite and once ordered by French King Louis Philippe for his daughter, are described as true antiques.
Chicago AP reports heavy selling in wheat futures at the Board of Trade with prices down as much as five cents at the opening. Other grains also showed weakness amid a broad market retreat.
A series of birth announcements from Frederick and nearby areas lists families welcoming new children. Names include Mark Allen Smyth Stephen Alan Jr Edward Grant Jr Connie Sue Rebecca Lorraine Bonnie Jo Matthew David Terry Lynn and David Allen with details on dates and residences.
