The Scott Key Center hosted its inaugural awards event to recognize individuals and organizations contributing to the center’s success. The left photo shows Pastor Ross Kirk Grove Church of the Brethren leading the gathering in prayer.
The USPS hires architect Mike Stoner of Bushey Associates to supervise salvage of artifacts from the historic Frederick post office ahead of demolition. Plans include salvaging granite steps and lobby terrazzo while bond funding was dropped from bids, with decisions on salvaged items made day by day and no explosives planned.
The New Market Democratic Central Committee unanimously backs Marvin C Anthony for reappointment to the Frederick County Board of Education. The committee will forward the recommendation to the state central committee, with final governor approval expected by July 1. Anthony thanked supporters from his home district as votes proceed.
Norman Thomas Frye of Route 1 Liamsville was driving a 1967 Pontiac northbound on Md 355 when he crossed the center line, drove along the southbound lanes, and went over a guardrail onto the Mumber River bridge. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and negligent driving after suffering facial cuts and being treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
The third annual Strawberry Festival at Christ Episcopal Church in Lucketts Virginia runs May 29 from 1 to 5 PM. Ice cream strawberry shortcake and handmade items will be sold to raise funds for restoring the 1868 church. Visitors can tour progress on exterior and interior work, including repaired beams polished lamps and painted walls. The church at US 15 and VA 683 across from the Little Rock Motel, also known as Christ Church formerly Goresville Church.
The Maryland Court of Appeals dismissed the Ficker Amendment in a 6 to 1 vote, remanding the case to the Circuit Court. The ruling leaves Montgomery County in limbo over opening the Oaks landfill by the June 1 deadline, with GLAYCA hailed as victory by Laytonsville residents and county officials awaiting a final decision.
