Robinson cleared to fight in Massachusetts for Pender bout
Sugar Ray Robinson is cleared to fight Paul Pender in a June 10 middleweight title clash in Boston after the Massachusetts Boxing Commission rejected a Maryland suspension. The NBA and other states weigh action as the bout had been signed months earlier and delay could hurt boxing economics. Robinson cited not appearing at a Baltimore bout as basis for the Maryland suspension, while Massachusetts noted its non membership in the NBA. Floyd Patterson tuned up in Newtown as he prepares to meet Ingemar Johansson in a scheduled bout at State Park, Watkins Glen.
