A 71 year old Harrisburg special reports a queer Loyalsock Valley elopement where Pounce Refley, a laborer, wed an 18 year old German domestic. The bride’s mother, Mrs. Katherine Kline, supported the match before learning of it, later escorting her son-in-law away. The couple are now in Power county while the bride returns to farm work. the mother speaks no English, the husband no German.
An advertisement-essay claims thousands suffer asthma consumption and coughs and touts Dr Acker's English Remedy as the best cure for long troubles. It promises a 25 cent guarantee and is presented as a positive remedy offer.

William Danner, an American Light and Heat employee, narrowly escaped death when a gas leak test on East Patrick Street yesterday afternoon caused a gas explosion. He suffered burns to the head and right hand and was helped home by Lewis Mehrling as Dr. S. Maynearb attended to ease his pains.
In Congress the Senate debated a bill to establish a land loan bureau in the Treasury and discussed imported liquors under state laws. The House worked on the tariff bill with sugar bounty amendments and McKinley amendments adopted. The death of Representative Kelley of Pennsylvania was announced.
Cumberland special meeting approves 150000 loan for Kingston improvements. City officials and company representatives reach agreement. Ordinance to be voted on Tuesday June 17.
Junior Hall has been handsomely decorated for the May Day event by the Junior Association on Tuesday evening. The decorations include two large banners before the stage and streamers of bunting from the center of the ceiling to the four corners. Three large stars stand outside the hall bearing emblems and paraphernalia of the company.
East Patrick street presented a busy appearance this morning with a large number of teams passing up and down. A blockade of twelve teams occurred opposite Besant and Knotts alley about 9 20 o clock.
There was no business meeting of the X.M.C. A. held Monday evening at Kemp Hall. Owing to the inclement weather it was postponed until Monday evening of next week at 7.45 o'clock.

In a Circuit Court ruling led by Chief Judge McSherry and Judges Lynch and Vinson, the Wenner liquor licenses case upheld the act sections on liquor sale as valid police provisions despite timing questions. The court noted a certification dispute over presentation date but declined to void the act. A separate Westminster case dismissed Rev. W C Brian’s appeal over alleged church cemetery tree destruction due to faulty arrest warrant, with witnesses from Middleburg present.
