Reformed Congregation Here Formed 175 Years Ago
The Evangelical Reformed church marks its 175th anniversary with Rev. Henri L. G. Kieffer delivering an historic sermon. The piece recounts earlier settlements around Creagerstown and Frederickstown, the 1746 1747 log church, Michael Schlatter’s 1747 Maryland visit, and the church’s early pastors and leaders. It notes the lineage from Monocacy to St. Paul’s Conococheague and Trinity Chapel, and emphasizes remembering the founders and faithful workers who established the congregation.

Action by the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church endorsing unity with the Northern branch stirs debate among Frederick Maryland congregations. About half of Trinity Methodist Episcopal South members favor union while the rest oppose. Racial tensions cited as a reason for opposition as other Southern groups in the region show similar divides. Fraternal societies report over 4,000 members annually amid a national federation of about 10 million people across 393 organizations.
