Milk quotas urged to curb Maryland Virginia output

J Homer Remsberg president of the Maryland Virginia Milk Producers Association told Kiwanis members that quotas or voluntary cutbacks may be needed to address overproduction. He cited a 12 percent rise in milk output last year while consumption grew 1-3 percent, and noted 400 members still producing more. The group warned of price impacts and discussed a $100,000 ad campaign to boost milk use while approving plans for 50 vending machines to expand sales. Prices fall nationwide, with sharper declines in New York and Philadelphia, and the Virginia Milk Commission cut producer prices by 23 cents.
