Wet roads sparked two morning crashes in Maryland. Joseph E. ONeill of Washington was on his way to Arizona when his 1947 coupe spun into Charles Minnick's 1936 sedan on Route 40 west of Braddock, injuring ONeill and causing about 500 dollars in damage. A second crash on Route 240 near Hyattsville involved Eleanor VanFossen in a 1936 sedan that rolled seven times after leaving the road. she escaped serious injuries and was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Fatally Shot During Colmar Manor Robbery
In Upper Marlboro on May 19 a man was shot and fatally wounded by a policeman during a Colmar Manor hot dog stand robbery attempt. The dead man’s identity was not released and the chest wound was said to be caused by the officer H. E. King. State's Attorney Carlyle Lancaster will investigate, with no action against the officer indicated. Sirens and whistles marked Armed Forces Day observances later today.

Suit Filed Over Alleys And Streets In Braddock Heights

A major Baltimore fire destroyed a 400 foot market on Cross Street and spread to adjacent shops and row houses. Three firemen were overcome by smoke. a 69 year old woman, Mrs Elizabeth Kern, hospitalized with burns. Firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour as two thirds of the citys firefighting equipment were sent to the scene. The cause was not yet determined and many residents were evacuated.
