Thurmont hearing set to lift building permit cap demand

Thurmont commissioners will hold a public hearing June 3 after developers pressed for more building permits. The town hit its 6 percent growth cap this month with 105 permits issued in 1993, five left for homeowners. Officials cited sewage plant constraints and need for a new substation, wells, and a 200000 gallon water tower to cope through 2000. Builders say contracts and notices of permit shortages leave them unable to fulfill obligations and some homeowners face displacement.

Planners say access road through Foxfield unneeded

Middletown planning and zoning commission backed architect Farhad Memarsadeghi and rejected a required Foxfield access road to the A C Jets property, a proposed future school site. Opposing views cited traffic, pedestrian access, and a parkway image, with a reserve to extend two lots for a future road if needed.
