Local observers predict bright sunshine and warm temps on Tuesday but turnout will be low. County has 29,060 registered voters with expectations of only 25 to 30 percent turnout. Four years ago turnout was 20 percent despite Kennedy campaigning. this year’s presidential race is weak with no national figures for Republicans and a limited Democratic contest.
Primary election results from Frederick County precincts will be compiled Tuesday night in the Winchester Room at Winchester Hall. The County Accountant’s office will tabulate county returns, with broadcast on WEMD and in the Winchester Room, plus a TV display for state results. Donald Linton leads the tally in coordination with the Frederick News-Post and the radio station.
Voters face gubernatorial and congressional contests with Lyndon B. Johnson’s run backed by Brewster and Wallace in focus. In Maryland the Senate race pits Tydings against Goldstein while Beall contends with Gleason on the Republican side. Campaigns wrap up and election day nears amid last minute logistics.
Three cars of the B and C passenger train bound for Cumberland derailed around 4 25 p m Saturday at Weaverton. The race track train bound for Shenandoah Race Track, following behind, was detained about ninety minutes. A Baltimore B and C spokesman attributed the derailment to track expansion.
Temperatures expected to run near normal with little variation from Tuesday to Saturday. Normal highs range 72 to 77 and lows 52 to 59, with extreme western Maryland dipping to the mid 40s. Scattered thundershowers possible Wednesday afternoon or night.

Sen Daniel Brewster halts his bid to defeat Gov Wallace in Maryland's Democratic presidential primary, bolstered by Sen Edward Kennedy's appearance in Baltimore. Kennedy compared Baltimore’s South Branch to South Boston, praising Brewster as party leader while Wallace supporters pushed back amid a broad campaign. The 23 county polls run 7 am to 7 pm with Baltimore City opening earlier, as observers expect Wallace to improve on Indiana and Wisconsin results.
George A. Nicholson a well known Detour dairy farmer was appointed to the Frederick County Planning and Zoning Commission to fill the vacancy created by Robert B. Ogles resignation Nicholson will complete the five year term ending July 12 196d serving with Dan Wight chairman Glenn T Swisher and Ernest W Ausher man members of the commission the posts are not salaried
The New York market opened hesitant and mixed with moderately active trading. Most major stocks moved fractions of a point with gains and losses narrow, some shares edging up or down by about a point.
Father William W. Sheldon and Sister Genevieve Ryan of the Emmitsburg Daughters of Charity were chosen as American representatives to an international commission for the Association of the Children of Mary. The Rome congress opens September 1965 with a meeting in September to shape the program. The group will discuss Marian dogmas, Mary’s privileges, and the laity’s role, amid the organization’s global spread since 1851.
About 30 women compete Wednesday at Ballenger Grange Hall Feagaville in the Frederick County Pomona sewing contest. Judging starts 10 a.m. with luncheon at 12:20 p.m. Toastmistress is Mrs Bernard Remsburg. Elliott Weinberg speaks at luncheon about Easter Seal Treatment Center operations. Center project chosen by Pomona home economics committee. Three sewing classes include adult and teenage cotton dresses and a child’s dress made by an adult.
USGS Water Research Division in College Park conducts a time of travel test by releasing rhodamine-B dye at Cumberland Paw Paw Hancock Shepherdstown and Point of Rocks to map dye movement down the Potomac. Dye is bright red and fluoresces but will dilute. no damage to water supply fish or plants expected.
Two Baltimore teenagers won top honors in the 13th annual Maryland Junior Chamber of Commerce Safe Driving Road E O held Saturday at the Frederick Shopping Center. John Rupprecht of Kenwood High won first, Reginald Gable placed second, and Christopher Ganley of Frederick took third.
Atlantic City AP reports two top Baptist leaders agree the Northern and Southern Baptist Conventions are moving toward closer cooperation but not merger. Harold E. Stassen, president of the American Northern Baptist Convention, and Dr. K Owen White of the Southern Baptist Convention say the simultaneous meetings signal progress as they join five other Baptist denominations Friday to mark 150 years of Baptist work in America.
Clergymen and church laymen from 41 states and D C gathered on Capitol Hill for a silent procession to urge prompt passage of the civil rights bill as the Senate entered its 11th week of debate. The event, led by Very Rev Francis B Sayre, included prayer, a briefing, and a planned outreach to senators with hopes of limiting debate in the coming weeks.
Baltimore AP reports state Insurance Commissioner approved a 14.6 percent rise in Blue Cross hospital insurance rates. The increase, sixth in seven years, follows rising costs and reduced reserves, with about 55 percent of Maryland subscribers affected. July 1 implementation excludes 70 day, federal retirees, and Blue Shield plans.
The National Guard lifted the 11 p.m. curfew in Cambridge indefinitely, with Brig. Gen. George M. Gelston stating the guards reserve the right to reimpose it later. CNAC said there would be no demonstrations until after the upcoming primary election, while Mayor Calvin W. Mowbray announced a joint committee to promote racial understanding.
President Johnson asked Congress for an extra 125 million dollars to expand both military and civil aid to South Viet Nam. He cited intensified Viet Cong attacks and a new Khanh government as reasons, detailing 70 million for economic help and 55 million for military needs plus equipment, training, and civil support projects.

New York AP Dominick Tucci, 12, spent 11 days at the World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows after slipping aboard a Long Island Rail Road train and evading police until a woman at the fair recognized him. He lived on five dollars a day from coins and slept in fair pavilions. He plans to return home soon, though he is homesick and says the place is guarded by many cops.
