Detrick readies for 25 percent more workers
Col. Wigger told a Chamber breakfast that Detrick will see a 25 percent increase in personnel. Housing for soldiers is the main concern with a six month family housing wait and no further Army plans for new family units. Some will stay in Washington County at first, then move to Frederick as support services grow. Area B could host private housing with a private contractor, though nothing is definite. Bill Hendricks outlined Fort Ritchie LRA efforts to attract tenants and a training center lease with the International Masonry Institute this summer. The project could boost Washington County’s economy but high tech jobs will take time to materialize, per capita income lags state levels.
