The Laggard Stork and the 1952 Selective Service
An analysis by General Lewis B. Hershey warns of an eight year manpower crisis due to a postwar lull in male births. He estimates a shortage of up to 25,000 draftees monthly by late 1952 as the birth-rate dip from 120,000 to 87,000 per month echoes into military manpower. He cautions to prepare for the worst while hoping for the best.
