Albany May 16 John Mitchell former president of the United Mine Workers of America has accepted a recess appointment as state labor commissioner. Governor Sulzer nominated him twice but the senate rejected him. The governor asserts power to name Mitchell for a term expiring twenty flags after the legislature convenes next January. Mitchell met with Sulzer to discuss reorganizing the labor department.
Grant Safford vice president of the Joral Bank in Winfeld was convicted by a jury on five counts for theft of cigars from local dealers. Testimony showed he took more cigars on seven occasions than he paid for. Sentence deferred.
