County to Cut Real Estate Tax Rate in 1987 Budget

Frederick County commissioners plan a three cent cut in the real estate tax rate next year from 2.22 to 2.19 per 100 assessed value, after shaving 525,000 from the proposed 1987 capital budget. The move accompanies a 93 million operating budget and 13 million capital budget and expands local funding for the Job Training Agency Head Start and Aging Commission. Local employees will get a 6.5 percent pay raise and school funding rises over 10 percent, even as assessments may lift bills despite the rate cut. Commissioners stressed restraint and used surplus more quickly to ease the tax load while warning rising assessments could offset the lower rate.
