Fly Trap Man Uses Gas to Battle Houseflies
Pittsburgh's Tomasek unveils a new insecticide based fly trap named fly charmer using Dipterex nerve gas derivative. He reports traps attract flies with a perfumed sugar bait on a black landing deck, catching and killing them within 40 seconds, while noting older and 15 day old flies resist less. He predicts no single chemical will end the housefly menace and that swatting remains the surest method.

Maple Sugar Decline Reported In Maryland
Maryland maple sugar production fell by 9,000 gallons in 1955 as freezing and thawing were insufficient to drive flow in Western Maryland trees. High winds dried taps, rain and warm weather reduced the season end but the syrup was sweeter. 50 gallons of sap yielded a gallon of syrup. Hawaii produced 1,077 347 tons of sugar in 1954, 21,969 tons smaller than the record crop.
