Opening game of the 1922 Blue Ridge League in Frederick features Berry for visitors and Blethen on the mound. Parade precedes first pitch at 3:30 pm with Mayor Schley tossing the ball. crowd expected large as fans fill stands and perimeter.
Thirteen students will graduate at the Maryland State School for the Deaf commencements on June 2. Graduates span College Preparatory, High Class, Eighth Grade, and Trades Department, with several entering Gallau det College in the autumn as self supporting members of society.
In the House of Commons Sir Hamers Greenwood, Secretary for Ireland, said no British troops would remain in southern Ireland by week’s end except those in Dublin for defense duties. coast defense units may still be in use.

Frederick city and county Sunday schools plan a first Young Peoples Congress on Tuesday June 13 at Evangelical Lutheran Sunday school rooms. Representatives aged 16 to 24 from each school will attend. the event includes an officer election, a dinner, and a full program led by local leaders and Mrs. Richard Estep president of the county Sunday School Association.
New York stocks show Lackawanna Steel climbing to 31 2, a new high in today’s movement. Other independent steels gained one to one and a half points. Copper equities rose one to two points after yesterday’s gains while high priced oils cooled after initial enthusiasm. American Ice led specialty issues with a six point rise, and Pierce Arrow preferred along with some cheater oils lagged amid a 3 1/2 percent call money start.
London May 16 dispatch says the Staffordshire regiment has embarked at Queenstown on a special steamer for further reinforcement to Belfast. The report appeared in the Evening Star.
Frederick business leaders won a pledge from Marwell C. Byers of the Western Maryland Railroad to personally oversee improvements after repeated delays. Col. D. John Markey of the Chamber of Commerce reported late mail for four weeks, noting a strike in railroad shops contributed to the problem. A train now carries mail to Thurmont with an investigator assigned to conditions, signaling relief after seven late arrivals in four weeks.
Washington May 16. President Harding has urged the Shipping Board to keep the name Leviathan for the large liner seized from Germany and used to transport troops. The board had considered renaming the vessel The President Harding.
A funeral procession in Royal Avenue Belfast was opened fire on from a side street today. An armored car and police car rushed to the scene and restored order as shoppers in the crowded avenue were thrown into a panic.
Friday marks Clean Sports day as part of Boys Week observed by the Rotary Club's Boys Work Committee. Highlights include a 6:30 to 8 kite contest at Schley Park judged by BarI Zeigjer, prizes for best appearance and most unique home-made kite, then an 8 to 9 aquatic meet at the YMCA directed by Avin G. Quinn with classes arranged by age.
A Rockville fairground event showcased 165 Montgomery county children ages six months to six years in a county wide baby show tied to the public school athletic meet. Experts examined teeth eyes ears throats and tested oral skills while prizes donated by local supporters honored top infants in each class.
The Frederick tourist park on the extreme end of West Patrick Street is finished and ready for visitors and campers. Nine free camps lie between Baltimore and Cumberland along the National Pike with six in Cumberland and three in Frederick. The park includes city water, electric lights, 24 eating tables, firewood, incinerators, lavatories, a store, and planted trees with grass seed sown. A conference with State Roads officials led to pamphlets for tourists, and Rotary and Chamber of Commerce groups will help welcome guests.
The American note declining to join the meeting at The Hague on Russian affairs was meant to keep dialogue alive. At the White House and in Geneva officials said the gesture preserves American interest in Russia’s economic reconstruction and may lead to further correspondence. The League Council refused to take up the Russian issue, referring the matter to Genoa for broader inquiry into famine and European economic reconstruction. Prime Minister Lloyd George suggested the American reply is not the final word and could underpin future talks.
