Local Pupils Stage Fort Frederick Pageant in Frederick
Elm Street School pupils presented a four episode pageant titled A Prelude to Fort Frederick during the Fort Frederick bicentennial celebration. About 2,000 people attended despite intense heat as eighth graders under John Griffin performed with Barbara Davis and others narrating. The event honored the fort, 200 years old, and a later program titled Portal to Peace will depict the fort’s role in national security and frontier development.

Campfire marks sixteenth Brotherhood of Jungle Dock event
About 150 men and boys are expected for the sixteenth annual campfire at Camp Airy near Thurmont from Friday to Sunday. Frederick sportsman Clarence C. Carty will preside. The program includes hunting and fishing films, and Saturday night offers prized sporting gear donated by tackle firms. A 6 pm memorial service at Jungle Dock on Big Hunting Creek honors founders Frank L. Bentz and Hammond Brown. Al White of Springfield, MA leads the memorial. The group, founded in 1940 to foster stream etiquette and sportsmanship, requires each adult to sponsor a boy for fly fishing instruction. A lake sits on John Humerick’s property.
