Prisoner treatment hailed as humane amid Korea talks
The report says POWs faced a staged screening to separate those willing to return home from those who would resist repatriation. Colson’s pledge to halt rearming was dismissed as propaganda, with experts noting North Korea and China allegedly pressed South Korean prisoners into military service under the pretext of freezing them after capture.

Kidnapping Seen As Red Move In Korean War
American officials view the Koje Island kidnapping of Brig. Gen. Francia T. Dodd as a Communist tactic to regain propaganda ground amid Korea truce talks. They warn it harms Western prestige, complicates Panmunjom negotiations, and tests U.S. broadcasts and prisoner repatriation policies. Colson’s agreement is criticized as offering redundant Red demands.

Gets Back Three Jobs Cut From State Budget
ANNAPOLIS May 13 The Department of Public Improvements regained three positions cut by the 1952 Legislature. The Board of Public Works restored them for the new fiscal year with bonds from the 1951 General Construction Loan, after assurances from Assembly committee members to reinstate on a contractual basis. Nathan L. Smith said the moves were approved unanimously and that he could retain the employees as before. In Rockville county officials studied small loan company regulations, with talks of seeking legislative authority. County Atty. David McDonald noted current state action relies on complaints. Minnesota and the Dakotas remain the leading flax producers in the nation.
